KIDNEY SIZE, THE KEY SUCCESS TRANSPLANT
During the relevant blood group becomes an important qualification to prevent rejection after a kidney transplant. However recent studies mentioned , the size of the kidney weight are also factors to consider. The kidney transplant recipients with a size smaller than the weight proportion of them are at higher risk on the occurrence of complications . The findings are generated in a study of 1,000 patients with kidney transplants . In a report published in the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, the scientists said the results of this study could be a reference for clinicians to improve the life expectancy of patients.
In their research, scientists continue to monitor the health status of patients five years after operation . By using calculations based on the body weight and the donor kidney recipients weight , it is known that the kidney is smaller than the body weight of the recipient at risk for complications . Complications include high blood pressure , renal scarring , and a 55 percent risk of graft failure two years after the operation. The majority of transplant recipients in this study received organs from dead donors.
Professor Jean- Paul Soulillou , lead researcher , said , from a clinical point of view, the results of this study is equivalent to the identification of markers (markers) to determine the appropriate type of network to reduce the risk of rejection. Suitability factors and compatibility between donor and recipient tissues is an important issue. " This information is needed for the thousands of transplant process to increase life expectancy , " he said.
Over the past 15 years, over 100 000 kidney transplants performed in the U.S. . Kidney transplantation is the best option for those with ESRD .
